GREETINGS: I love Chinese,..... so so so much! Matt get ready because you NEVER know where you'll get called. There are missionaries here who before their call were fluent in Japanese, Turkish, French, Finnish, Spanish, and Fijian and still got called Chinese speaking... And I've heard some people who were fluent basically in Chinese gtetting called to Japan or Korea. HAHA! Some may think, oh, those are close to the same language.... no. no at all. I hear Japanese speakers or korean speaking and it sounds like a garbled mess of sounds... weird to think Chinese used to sound like that to me. Q&A: Anyway, I know ya'll have asked some questions so I'll try to answer a few of those right now... How to pronounce Taoyuan (t-ow! you-en). I get the mail when we go to Taipei for p -day or usually when there are big meetings they'll bring the mail to us... but every month at least once we have an opportunity to grab it when we have Mission Leadership Council to discuss the next month's goals and vision and such. From the mission office to our apartment in Nankan, Taoyuan it's about 1 hour. 15 min MRT and then 45 min bus ride. It's still about a 20 min. bike ride to our ward's chapel. WHAT'S NEW: This week I was able to go on my first exchange here in Taoyuan, I went to zhongli with Sister Bowman. She is so amazing, on her second transfer. Here in NanKan the Lord is blessing us so much! We have all our evenings booked and many afternoons too. Between meetings, exchanges, and lessons, we still have a little time to contact and find new investigators. I love it here! Except, I'm still getting used to biking up the hills and slopes... my legs are slowly getting there :) I loved this week! Miracles with safety, peikes, and at church we had 2 now active Filipino members passing the sacrament and their friend (an investigator currently) was there too. We had two other LAs and another investigator who this past week set his own date for baptism, 2/8! Hopefully he'll make it.... I haven't actually really met with him before because I was exchanges at that time, but he then went to the YSA activity Sunday night. Love it! Yep, basically our life is great and Heavnely FAther knew Sister Miller and I needed to be companions. I'm learning so muich from her diligence and drive! She loves these people and loves the work! Bro. Jay, Me, Sis. Morris,(Investigator) Elgine & Bro Alster | MTC reunion!Sisters Knight, Williams, and Murri, from my Mission Training group in Provo a year ago! We've been separated since we arrived in Taiwan, now all serving as Sister Training Leaders! I'm also loved studying the New Testament lately, still.... yes, I'm still in Matthew, but it takes longre because I'm reading a section (a parable, a story, part of an event) nand then finding that section in Jesus the Christ and leraning more. It is SOOOO cool! I'm loving it. Jesus the Christ just has so much about the history and culture but also explains cleraly meanings of words nand phrases. This past week and this week I'm reading about the last supper to Christ's resurrection. While in MAtthew it takes only like 2 or 3 chapters, I've spent a week understanding each part more and it's just so amazing. FOr example, we always hear an d are told Christ was unjustly condemned. Obviously H didn't do anything, but more than that, the actual tribunal of Jews that first condemned Him and took Him to Pilate were illegally congregated. And just many other things. Like Pilate's wife, there's only one verse in Mathew about it, but she sent Pilate a note or told him somehow that he should'nt get involved with "this just man" because she'd had dreams about it. It's just cool to understand. I love having an hour every morning to study scriptures and it seems sooooo short! REally, taking 10 or 15 minutes of the day HEavenly FAther has given you, to pray and then read from the scriptures (OT, NT, Bom, D&C, PGP, Liahona, etc.) is NOT that long. |I'm so grateful for my parents' example of studying even thgouh they are busy. I love this gospel and love my life! I'm so so so grateful I decided to take this time and serve, because I don't know all I'm doing for the work, but I know what the wrok has been doing for me, and I'm so grateful that I have this time to sanctify and find out more fully and deeply that Heavenly FAther LOVES me, and Christ's atonement really effects us evreyday! Love you all so so much! See you when I see you! Love, Sister Smith All New sister training leaders at our conference meeting! |
